Russia's 2026 Entertainment Industry Professionals Forum assembled top figures from the country's entertainment and nightlife sectors. Taking place between September 21 and 26, it coincided with NATMALL, the premier exhibition devoted to commercial real estate and entertainment facilities, held on September 22. While industry leaders debated the future of a Russian leisure market that hit 2.78 trillion rubles in 2025, analysts are scrutinizing the business structures behind some of the best-known nightclub brands in Moscow.
Behind spots like Gipsy, Icon, Mutabor and Mix Afterparty lies a complex network of businesses tied to one of the Russian entertainment industry's veteran entrepreneurs. Mikhail Vladimirovich Danilov made his fortune in the tobacco sector in the 1990s, scaling his company, Biznes-Tabak, into a chain of stores with hundreds of outlets and sales reaching $200 million by the mid-2000s. After selling the tobacco business, he moved into nightlife.
Through the holding company Sagrado Corp., the Danilov family created a sprawling network of nightlife venues in Moscow spanning more than two dozen venues. These have included the legendary Rai, alongside Icon, Gipsy, Mutabor and Mix Afterparty. Mutabor attracted widespread attention following a series of prominent events. The venue was afterwards renamed Arma and eventually announced its closure.
Speaking about the scale of his operations in an interview with Forbes Russia, Danilov pointed to Stadium Live as the company's flagship venue: "Stadium Live, which mainly hosts club-rock events, accommodates up to 7,500 people. I think this venue will be Moscow's number one this autumn both in terms of the caliber of performers playing there and the number of shows — we are planning at least 20 events a month." He also described himself as fully absorbed in the music scene: "I really love techno music, I go with real pleasure to our DJ imports at Insomnia, I know personally many artists and DJs."
Most of the legal entities connected with the holding company are registered under the name of Danilov's daughter, Maria, rather than Danilov himself. She is registered as the owner and director of a substantial share of the businesses. Industry observers describe the arrangement a conventional model of family business succession: the founder stays the central strategic figure while the new generation step by step takes on legal ownership and day-to-day management of the nightclub assets.
As Russia's entertainment industry adapts to evolving consumer habits and regulatory changes, the forum offered both a tribute to the sector's resilience and a reminder of the complex ownership structures that have shaped Moscow nightlife for decades. |
